Baring It All with Selina Albright

By Lydia Plantamura

“Selina Albright was surrounded by musicians her whole life. The daughter of acclaimed jazz artist, Gerald Albright, she got an early glimpse of the entertainment world. While growing up, Selina occasionally got to travel with her father while he was on tour. She fondly remembers traveling to Seattle as a kid in the 90s for one of Whitney Houston’s. This was shortly after the release of The Bodyguard, and the musical director had all the background vocals for ‘Queen of the Night’ queued up on his keyboard. Selina marveled as his ability to play the incredible backup vocals with just a touch of his finger. More impressive than watching those behind-the- scenes rehearsal tricks, was Whitney Houston herself. Selina watched from a hotel window one day, as security blocked the pool deck from the other guests, allowing Houston to swim alone.

Selina remembers the sound of Whitney’s voice during rehearsals, full-force and powerful. A true professional, Houston would adjust her vocals according to climate, weather, and health. Her voice control was amazing to witness, and it gave Selina chills hearing it in person.

‘She was a queen!’ Selina said in an interview with Industry Certified Magazine. ‘One of the greatest of all time. It was quite an experience to see her that close. I’ve always been a huge fan.”

Raised by the G.O.A.T. of contemporary jazz saxophone, it’s only natural that Selina started singing as a toddler. As she grew, she developed a deep appreciation for music…”

“…Work is only one part of our lives. It shouldn’t define us.

‘Don’t just wait for retirement,’ Selina advises. ‘Enjoy your life as it passes.’

Selina Albright recognizes that people want to live a life in service of all of their needs, and that’s part of her mission. On a personal note, she’s trying to reach more people, continuing to encourage them to live better lives one song at a time.”
