A Walk Downtown
A Walk Downtown
Wander down the winding sidewalk,
lined with twisted iron, speckled with rust.
Try not to step on the cracks.
Spanish moss punctures,
it pierces down like stalactite icicles.
A monarch butterfly with wings in a flutter.
Dances, floats, and drifts on the wind,
like an autumn leaf.
A collection of every shade of orange, yellow, and red.
The sunset is reflected in the trees,
as if they were the sea.
Gaze up at the church steeples
with fish scale shingles,
They thrust up. Sharp.
Reaching towards heaven,
as if to slash open the sky
so it comes tumbling down.
